I'm Jovanhanna and I love my natural hair. I am a Costa Rican-American and the mother of two beautiful girls ages 13 and 1. I have been natural for 3 years now and I love it. My hair is healthy and unique. It was not until this year that I actually achieved moisture balance in my hair. I had to deal with dry, brittle hair for a very long time. There were days when I wanted to give up and relax my hair, but I knew I would regret it and it would not be worth me having to start this process of growing and maintaining my natural hair all over again. Relaxers are not for my hair or body. I do not have any ill feelings towards anyone that chooses to use relaxers. That is their choice; the same way having natural hair is mine. The journey with my hair helped me to accept myself and learn the truth about me and my hair in general. I had to face stereotypes, but really I just had to love and accept myself. I sometimes wear wigs, I blow dry my hair, will get it braided with extension hair, I will rock it free and proud, or leave it in two strand twists. My hair is like me, versatile and unique. Each strand of my crown is an individual coil of curls. I can wear my hair in so many different styles. The biggest impact of my decision to accept my natural hair has been on my daughter. She is able to embrace her own hair early on. Loving ourselves and being happy with how we were divinely made is the best gift we can give to ourselves.
