I ran into a guy I grew up with last night and he said something like "I was wondering what was going on with you because your hair used to be perfect". I responded that my hair is more perfect now than ever! My journey began when I decided to embrace the woman God created me to be. I started dancing nude at home each morning embracing my body with all the rolls and wrinkles. It has been exhilarating! From there I started thinking about my schedule and how so much of my time and money was spent at the hair salon each week. I recently started a business and I would be closed on Wednesday and that was the reason - so I could make my hair appointment. So I started talking to my stylist about going natural. He worked with me, not putting relaxer in my hair for several months. I convinced him to put hair tattoos (designs) in the back. After a while, he told me he was not a barber and I decided to go to the barber shop. I bought my first bottles of shampoo and conditioner in over 30 years. I went from spending $200 a month to a little over $60. I can now get in the shower without a shower cap. I had not taken a bath in years. I can now get in the tub and not worry what the steam is going to do to my hair as I relax and soak my body. I can walk in the rain! I am fearfully and wonderfully made and I love me more than ever. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ~Psalm 139;14 NIV Long before God laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. ~Ephesians 1:4 MSG Carmen |
